Re: Any opinions on Programmers?
Is there a difference between not giving a shit or never having used one? Of course there is always someone that can blow in your ear about which one is best and they never used one and/or give a shit. Your reader (?) is way off on the number of posts, glad you're not using any tuners if you jump to those kind of conclusions.

Re: Any opinions on Programmers?
I wish I could help you but I've never used a programmer. Obviously, nobody else here gives a shit. Because of all these caring people, this group totally sux big time. 30 posts. WOW!!!

Re: Vito thread, highjacked C5 AC Blower Motor Noise thread
Supposedly eight different people including her father tried to teach my wife to drive a car with a manual tranny, and it never worked. I never tried, and that's probably for the best. When I decided to buy a car to have fun with, it was going to have to have a clutch, and that has the added benefit of keeping her from trying to get in the driver's seat. I told her

Vito thread, highjacked C5 AC Blower Motor Noise thread
That's one of the reasons I've been looking for a C4, to get an automatic transmission. No more sticks for me, 5 of the 6 cars I drive are sticks and my truck is an automatic. At my age the mother clutching shifting is sometimes painful, especially in stop and go traffic jams. Some of the C4 owners are so proud of their car I may have to get a C5

Re: C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
You and the buying public remain gullible, there is nothing magic about the 2008 Corvette. There are about three things different than the early years of the C6, LS3, 6 speed paddle shift and NPP exhaust. Unless you're an up tight Corvette snob they have little to do with the C6 and the way it drives and handles. Sort of like the V8 emblem

Re: C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
GM has 'sudden accel' problems too. It is becuase GM has so many divisions that the press is not able to reach critical mass on the story. Toyota essentially only makes Toyota and they are held ransom to any idiot that buys the marque and cannot tell the gas from the brake. See Audi in the 80s All cars were built like crap in the 50s and 70s. Only thing was that was

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
And the answer is! ..... It looks like The 63-74 pump had a hole thru the pump and a long bolt like in your drawing you posted earlier. the 75-82 had a short bolt in front and a stud in back. Both pumps will fit in the same bracket. The stud on the back side of the pump does have a thin nut on it. The

Re: C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
I have no doubt some did have their foot on the gas but then why in 13 years has there be no outrage on the same system used on the C5 and C6 Corvette? Could it just be that there is no computer programming problem that was done by GM and there was with the Toyoda? A bad program is not a malfunction.

Re: C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
Dad. You are one of the few intelligent posters on this newgroup. That sudden accel in a toytoa is a bunch of media hype. They are now finding out that folks had their foot on the gas rather than the brake. The media is only figuring that out now. How come all sudden acceleration cases were accompanied by brakes that didn't work?? These idiots had gotten
|
Re: C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
Score one for another blind follower of Toyota propaganda. "The government has said unintended acceleration in Toyotas may have been involved in the deaths of 93 people over the past decade. The agency has received about 3,000 complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyotas." (Quote taken from an article your posts pointed to.)

Re: C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
Sorry, I used to be a dedicated GM owner. Chevy's, Pontiacs, etc. Then I relized they were selling junk and GM didn't care. I noticed that some Japanese cars never had any problems. I currently own a 64 Vette and recently sold my 69 L71. Those cars were gorgeous and state of the art at the time. Corvettes built now are just

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
No - The frozen nut is frozen to the bolt stub between the pump body and one side of the bracket. Were it not there, or turning, I could remove the bolt. I think originally they have a bolt and use the small nut to lock the pump in place to one side of the bracket. Then there is a nut that goes on the other side of the bracket to secure it to that bracket

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
Yes You are correct - I have had all of that off to try to give me more room to manoeuver. The kicker is that the fittings for the power steering are seized on with time and I am afraid I will bugger them up in the process. That is preventing me from taking the whole thing out. I warned you I am not a master nor experienced mechanic......

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
Snip Good grief - it never rains but it pours..... The bolt slides thru the steering pump body it seems, but there is a spacer nut on the back - too thin to get a wrench on and it is holding the power steering pump to the bracket. If I try to spin it out, it locks the bracket tighter to the pump body.

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
Sorry it took me awhile to find time to get to it, but .... Well, well, well - here's the skinny! I disconnected all the belts and fired it up and it makes normal noises for a 35 year old engine! I hooked them up one by one and the noise was still gone. However, more closely examining everything, the head of the bottom mounting

Any opinions on Programmers?
thinking of getting a programmer. diablo, hyperteh or superchip forma 2000 6 speed. only mods are a magnaflow catback & an offroad pipe. thanx...

Re: C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
I'm sure you will be happy to know then that GM fixed this on the C6. On the C6 the A/C drain empties onto the exhaust pipe. When you stop the car on a hot day you should hear a nice sizzling sound for a while. And, unless it is really humid, you no longer get a puddle on the floor. On second thought, since you hate everything GM and would never think

Re: C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
Moral: Just pass on buying a GM car. What an engineering nightmare. If GM is goint to hide that thing where they do, they better make sure it does not clog. Good pix though. Vito

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
Good example of not knowing what all the bolts on an engine are for. The '64 Impala would have the bolt I referred to as well as the 305 small block. The only one I can not remember seeing it on was a '56 Vette and it may have been because of the engine mount plate. All of the later mechanical pump engines should have the bolt. It is around

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
That many miles has in the past caused the fuel pump pushrod to wear and cause the type noise you are hearing. Try getting something (golf club, hose, whatever) on the fuel pump and you will probably hear the slap, knock of the rod. Not too hard to repair nor too expensive. There is a bolt in the front of the block that can be removed that

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
Thanks - it will take me a few days to get to it due to other things going on here. I think I will take off the fan and all belts so I can get in there with better safety with a chunk of pool hose to see what I may be able to determine.... Keep you posted...... BSA

C5 AC Blower Motor Noise
Blower was making a rattling sound and increased when making a left turn. Problem: The drain for the AC evaporator was plugged. Motor and resistor were soaked with standing water in the enclosure.. Dried them out and unplugged the hole. Reinstalled and am running air only (no AC) until all the moisture has evaporated from the components. So

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
May very well be your new water pump, easy to check by removing the belt and starting it up for a bit. It could just be your fan clutch and your engine can be run without it for some time if you keep it moving. Main bearings that are making a noise don't go away, they just get worse. I would certainly look at what you just worked on first if it came
|
Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
hmm -If I am looking at the right part, when running it does not *seem* to run off center, but it does seem like the area where the noise is located (at least generallyt). I will have to try that swimming pool hose trick to see if I can further narrow it down (without lopping something off in all the turning and whirling things in that area....)

Re: 76 problem - advice requested.
On my '71 at about 75,000 miles, the vibration damper worked its way to the point where it was rubbing. It had to be replaced. That is a long time ago. Man, I miss that car. Rather than a crowbar, I use a flexible piece of hose. Old pool vacuum hose is nice, as it is about 2 inches in diameter. I'd bet a piece of

76 problem - advice requested.
I have a 1976 vette with about 120K miles on it. Owned it since new. Last year I had to do a fair amount of work on it (spring, shocks, rad support bracket, new rad, new water pump.). It seems to have been developing a problem and I am not sure what it is. I thought it started about the time I installed the new water pump,

Re: 0-60 speeds
I've always thought they tried the run numerous times using several techniques and the fastest time is what made it in the article. AJM '93 40th Anniversary coupe, 6 sp (both tops)
|
Re: 0-60 speeds
It seems to me it would be a bit hard to standardize a shift point based on RPM. If you are running a test for an 0-60 speed with a car that develops 9,000 RPM redline and then try the same with one that redlines at 6,500 you have a false comparison. The shift point has to be based on peak torque/HP to get even a basic comparison.
|
Re: 0-60 speeds
Yes... but are the TESTS standardized in some way - is the question? -W
|
Re: 0-60 speeds
Most times it is best to shift just prior to when peak torque is reached, that will vary by the engine being tested. If you can't reach it very early in 2nd, sometimes 1st, you don't want to know the time or the RPM. ;-)
|
0-60 speeds
I hope this doesn't turn out to be a dumb question but... When they test those 0-60 speeds on a standard transmission is there a set protocol for at what rpm you shift and how many gears are used?
